Let’s explore the 3 main types of juicers.

Types of juicers

Centrifugal Force Juicers

With this type of juicer, your fruits and vegetables go through a feed tube and come into direct contact with the shredding blade. The extracted juice is then thrown by the spinning basket’s centrifugal force towards the sides of the basket and pushed through it into a jug.

In the case of a continuously ejecting juicer, the pulp is forced out of the machine into a pulp container.

The basket becomes full if the pulp isn’t automatically removed from the spinning basket. In this case, you have to stop the machine and empty the basket of the pulp before continuing to juice.

These juicer types are fast and easy to assemble and clean.

They’re the fastest at extracting juice from fruits and vegetables, among all juicer types.

Centrifugal juicers handle soft fruits well and stand upright, hence consuming less counter space.

They are also very affordable.

If you want to juice for the nutritional benefits with the least effort, then centrifugal juicers are ideal for you.

Masticating Juicers

Masticating juicers use a single spiral shaped gear to press and chew (masticate), the fruits and vegetables as they’re fed into the tube. Juice is extracted slowly and collected in a container that’s fitted under the gear shaft. The pulp is comes out at the end of the gear shaft into a pulp container.

These juicer types are great at juicing very leafy greens and even wheatgrass.

Masticating juicers extract more juice from your fruits and veggies as they work at a low rpm. This slow pace also helps to preserve more nutrients because there is less oxidation.

You can use these juicers for milling grains and for making nut butters and baby food.

They are also great at processing frozen fruits.

Masticating juicers are more expensive and slower than centrifugal juicers.

This type of juicer is ideal for you if you want the very most nutrients possible, don’t have a problem spending more time juicing and are wanting to juice grasses.

Triturating Juicers

Triturating juicers have two gears and they separate the juice in two stages: First, they crush the fruits and vegetables then they squeeze the juice out of them. This is the best method of extracting juice as it releases more soluble fiber, enzymes, vitamins, and trace minerals from the pulp, giving you extremely nutritious juice. Some triturating juicers have a technology to slow down the oxidation process, which is great if you want to save some juice for later.

Triturating juicers extract the most nutrients from fruits and vegetables.

Their twin gears turn at a lower rpm other juicer types, extracting more juice from hard and soft fruits and vegetables and various leafy greens, grasses, herbs,

You can use them to homogenize food to make baby foods, pasta, nut butters, fruit sorbets, etc.

They’re the most expensive of the three juicer types.

They are also quite slow and take up lots of space.

If you don’t mind paying extra to get the very best nutrients from leafy greens, herbs, and a wide variety of vegetables and fruits, then this juicer type is for you.

The right juicer for you depends on how much time you want to spend juicing, how often, and how important retaining the most nutrients possible and extracting the most juice possible is to you.
